Illicit drugs are forbidden at all times throughout your stay at the Sanctuary and at the village.
Alcohol may be consumed (responsibly) outside of working hours only.
Phone signals may not be available in some areas.
We do not offer refunds, but changes to your volunteering dates will be permitted up to one month before the start of your visit.
We reserve the right to terminate the program of any volunteer/s found to be in breach of our rules or local laws. No refund will be given in this case.
Weather and seasonal conditions may affect where you work, or what you will be doing, but your volunteer program will continue no matter what, so don’t worry!
Operational Months: All year round
Volunteers must be physically fit and over 18 years of age (if under 18, please see ‘Special Requirements for Minors’ to determine if you qualify for a volunteer position)
A basic level of spoken English is required
No special vaccinations are required to volunteer with us
No specific experience is required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to have one of the greatest experiences of your life!
Seasonal Weather: As a rule, you should bring wet weather clothes if planning to volunteer between June – October, and warm clothes between November – February.
Minimum Stay : 1 week
Start Dates: Only on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month
LIST OF POSSIBLE ACTIVITIES
Depending on the time of year, your personal preferences, and the current needs of the Sanctuary, you may participate in some or all of the following activities:
Preparation of food, and feeding the elephants
Building, maintenance, and enrichment of the infrastructure of the camps
Daily cleaning of the elephants’ environment
Collection of ingredients for, and preparation of, herbal medicines for the elephants
Walking through the jungle to find the elephants, and walking with them for the purposes of veterinary care and visitor tours, as well as to and from the mud spa and waterfall
Assisting the caretakers with daily elephant care tasks
Planting trees, or food for the elephants (Depending on season)
Domestic tasks (e.g. Assisting with cooking, cleaning for the volunteers)
Further volunteer opportunities (such as teaching English, marketing, web page development, artistic projects, etc.) may also be available, depending on your skills and the current needs of the Sanctuary)
WHAT IS PROVIDED
Accommodation – Traditional Karen Villiage House, wooden, matresses on the floor with mosquito netting – dormitary style. Toilets ourside in their own hut, with bucket to bathe with. 3 meals per day (All meals can be prepared to suit vegetarians or vegans, or to accommodate any special dietary requirements)
Fresh seasonal fruit, tea, coffee, and drinking water will also be provided
Full instruction for all tasks you are required to perform
Transport between Chiang Mai and your volunteer location/s
An immersive cultural experience, as you learn about the local tribal lifestyle

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING
– A current passport valid for at least the full length of your stay
– A valid visa or visa exemption (if applicable)
– To make your way to the city of Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand
– Things such as extra tours, snacks, soft drinks, and souvenirs will incur additional expenses
– Personal insurance (We also provide the insurance from our end)
– A change of clothes for 7+ days (including long sleeves and long trousers for trekking), Bathing suit, Towel, Sunscreen, Insect repellent, Hat, Flip flops, Shoes/boots for trekking, Flashlight, toilet paper, Camera (optional)
